- Your existing shafts have structural constraints that prevent machine-room-less installation
- You already have a well-maintained machine room and no need to reclaim it
- You have a trusted local maintenance relationship you'd rather keep
- Upfront price is the hard constraint (the gap is smaller than you'd think, but it exists)
No universal "best" here. The right answer depends on what your building already has and what you're trying to achieve.
Final thoughts
Comparing elevator systems taught me that vendor selection isn't about chasing "the best" brand or spec. It's about matching the solution to your specific building, priorities, and long-term maintenance plan.
Get the full specs. Ask for site references. Talk to building managers who've actually lived through an install. And consider the lifetime picture—not just the equipment quote, but space value, energy consumption, and service response.
The MonoSpace was the right call for our building. But a traditional machine-room elevator could genuinely be the right call for another building. That's not fence-sitting; it's how building systems work.
And one last thing: keep your IT vendor on speed dial. The elevator company—no matter how good—won't fix your Windows sound issue.
